The Food Hub will help answer the pressing question of how we are to sustainably feed a growing global population.
The global food system is close to breaking point. Intensive agriculture is not only reliant on resources that are in finite supply, but it is destroying natural ecosystems and soil and driving climate change. Around 50% of habitable land has already been converted into farming land. Despite all this, it is still failing to adequately nourish much of the world’s population.
We want the Food Hub to be an ongoing test-bed for innovating new solutions for sustainable food distribution. Academics will be able to use the Food Hub for research and if the Food Hub is located in SmithsonHill’s agritech park, it will mean that the people who are defining the future of the food industry are exposed to an exemplar of sustainable food practice.
